DEPARTMENT OF ROADS TO BECOME AUTONOMOUS IN BOTSWANA
Plans in motion for the Ministry to be an Autonomous entity in Botswana.
Plans are underway for the Ministry of Transport and communication to be an autonomous entity in Botswana. The Department will have the freedom to govern itself or control its own affairs. It will also enable them generate its own income in the process.
Minister Kitso Mokaila said “If the department could generate income, government would fast-track construction of tarred roads in volumes across the country. He also said a vibrant and autonomous roads department would put an end to the use of consultants.”
According to the Minister, the department are having professionals to perform every task given to them. They will also be able to design and do quantity surveying thereby saving government from profuse bleeding financially.
The minister said his ministry was planning to move bus ranks from city centres so as to ease traffic congestion. Meanwhile bus will would be relocate so that only taxis could transport passengers between the city centres and ranks.
The Minister was speaking during a kgotla meeting at Mabeleapudi for the construction of a by-pass road from the village to Serule.
